Before starting a serious bodybuilding and weightlifting regimen you must make sure you understand basic muscle building physiology. It is most important to understand the overload principle. The fact is weightlifting won't help you build bigger muscles unless you overload your muscles. When I say overload I am referring to imposing a greater demand on your muscles than previously placed. It is also important to understand the principle of rest, and muscle development. At rest your muscles are growing, not while you are working out. It is imperative to get an optimal amount of rest. If you don't, you will quickly short circuit you weight lifting results. You may become weaker, smaller, and grossly overtrained. This, in turn, leads to training frustration. Make sure you understand these two very important weightlifting principles. Not understanding them could results in the difference between bodybuilding success, and miserable failure.
